Process for Adding Natural Gas Equipment to an Existing Service Line/Meter

Adding equipment to an existing natural gas meter or requesting a new gas meter?  You’ll need to contact our sales department and provide the following information.  The sales representative will determine if the service line from the street to the building is adequately sized to supply the added equipment and if not will process a request for a larger gas service line.  Also, we’ll need to check the existing meter location to determine if adequate space exists to install a larger or additional meter and that all code requirements can be met at that location.  If not, the service may need to be moved to another space on the building.  Lastly, current policy is to relocate inside meters outside whenever the opportunity presents itself. You should never install the equipment without speaking to a sales representative first or you may incur costs that could have been avoided.

Here is the information that is needed.

bullet Hourly BTU input rating of existing natural gas equipment on the meter
bullet Hourly BTU input rating of the natural gas equipment to be added to the meter
bullet Equipment delivery pressure requirement
bullet Existing meter number
bullet Customer name and phone number
bullet Installer’s name and phone number
bullet Date that equipment must be operational

Please contact the sales department at least 8 weeks in advance of the date the equipment needs to be operational in the event that the natural gas service line needs to be replaced. If the service line is adequate, but a meter needs to be upgraded or added, we’ll need 4 weeks to design, order and install the meter equipment.

Approximate wall space required for the following meters are provided as an example only. You must call the sales department to confirm the requirements. The wall space requirement is for the meter installation only.  Code requires that the meter be located at least three feet from any window, door, vent or air intake.
