How to read your gas meter:

If you have a multi-dial gas meter, a hand on each dial on the face of the meter points to a number. Read these numbers from left to right. If a hand is between two numbers, read the lower number EXCEPT when the hand is between 0 and 9. In this case, read the number 9. Be sure to read the dials carefully and note that the numbers on every other dial read counterclockwise.

A sample meter reading appears below. In this illustration, the correct reading would be 4903.

       

If you have a digital read-out meter, simply read the numbers that are displayed in the small boxes on the face of the meter from left to right.
