Bay State Gas Hits Homerun with Lawrence Housing Complex
Westborough, MA, January 22, 2010 – Seizing the opportunity to save on energy costs and reduce greenhouse emissions, Omni New York LLC (ONY), through its affiliate Omni America LLC (OA), secured a rebate of over $195,000 from Bay State Gas Company. The energy improvement project included installing high efficiency natural gas boilers, water heaters, and windows at ONY’s Sycamore Village property, a 168-unit affordable apartment complex located in Lawrence, Massachusetts. ONY is a real estate development company that was founded by former Red Sox slugger, Maurice "Mo" Vaughn, and Eugene Schneur, for the purpose of bringing revitalization and development to various neighborhoods in New York and other states.
"ONY provides quality, well managed affordable housing in neighborhoods that have historically had a shortage of such affordable housing," stated Mo Vaughn, principal of Omni New York LLC. "We are happy we can add energy efficiency to the list of benefits we can now provide for residents of Sycamore Village. We are proud to not only provide affordable housing but also more energy efficient and comfortable homes."
Most of the energy efficient installations involved replacement of old, inefficient boilers and hot water systems with high efficiency, modulating, condensing boilers and indirect water heaters. In addition, centralized energy management systems for monitoring and control were installed in the buildings to maximize the operating performance of the new equipment.
"Our expertise in natural gas energy efficiency has helped deliver energy savings to thousands of customers," said Derek Buchler, manager, demand side management at Bay State Gas. "We are extremely pleased to be part of this great energy efficiency project. Engineering estimates indicate the property can expect to save almost 67,000 therms in the first year and have an estimated lifetime savings of over 1.2 million therms. That is enough energy to heat over 1,237 homes for an entire year."
