How do I read my own meter?
- If you have a multi-dial gas meter, a hand on each dial on the face of the meter points to a number. Read these numbers from left to right.
- If a hand is between two numbers, read the lower number EXCEPT when the hand is between 0 and 9. In this case, read the number 9.
- Be sure to read the dials carefully and note that the numbers on every other dial read counterclockwise.
Here is a sample meter reading of 4903.
If you have a digital read-out meter, simply read the numbers that are displayed in the small boxes on the front of the meter from left to right. Click here to send a meter reading to us.
Is my meter ever replaced?
We periodically replace our meters. If this affects you, we will call you to schedule a meter change.
I'll be away from home for several weeks. What can I do to save energy?
To save energy, we recommend you do the following:
- Lower your heat thermostat to 55.
- Set your gas water heater to pilot or low.
- If your water heater is in a heated area, turn it off at the breaker; otherwise, lower the temperature setting.
- Lower the temperature setting or unplug a water bed heater.
- Turn heaters off for pools and spas and reduce the filter to a minimum.
What happens if I move?
To turn off your gas in your old home and turn on your gas in your new home, call the Service Department at least seven business days in advance.
